Martyrs’ Square

Its location
Martyrs’ Square is located in the East neighborhood, the most prestigious and oldest neighborhood in Port Said Governorate, facing the governorate’s general office, located on July 23 Street, the most important main street in the governorate, and to the right is the Port Said Military Secondary School for Boys.
Obelisk of the Martyrs
The Obelisk of the Martyrs is the memorial to the martyrs of Port Said. It is located in the park of Martyrs’ Square, known as the Obelisk, which is one of the squares of the city of Port Said and which President Gamal Abdel Nasser ordered to be built in memory of the martyrs of the city of Port Said who gave their blood in front of the tripartite aggression of the aggression countries Israel, England and France against Egypt in 1956. Development

The garden walls of the square were removed as part of the Gardens Without Walls initiative adopted by the former governor of Port Said at the time, Major General Adel Ghadhban, and its wide green area was made available to view, giving an aesthetic appearance that is comfortable for the eye for all passers-by. It is rare to see a country in its location overlooking the sea and a canal and located on the continents of Asia and Africa. Its most prominent square, “Egypt Square,” witnesses a message to the world from the heart of Port Said Governorate, and the “Mother of the World” statue receives foreign delegations with an important message: “Egypt is the source of humanity, light, and knowledge.”
Egypt Square in the Sharq district of Port Said Governorate is of great importance due to its unique geographical location and its touristic and strategic importance. Its location
Saint Eugenie Church is located in Al-Mansheya Square in the Sharq District, or the French District, as it was called in the past, one of the most prestigious and oldest neighborhoods in Port Said Governorate.
Its historical origins
The historical origins of the Church of Saint Eugenie in Port Said go back to March 27, 1867 AD, after the management of the Suez Canal Company ceded to the Franciscan fathers a plot of land to build a church for Catholics in Port Said. The church was built of wood in the name of Saint Eugenie.
On March 19, 1890 AD, the current church was rebuilt from stone, and the Italian engineer Eduard Sebek developed the church designs and supervised the implementation.
Its architectural design
The Church of “Saint Eugenie” was built in the European style, which combines elements of the neoclassical style and the modern Renaissance style. It was also designed in the basilica style, the oldest architectural style in church planning and is believed to be an architectural style adapted from the “Roman basilica”, Roman temples.
Its facades are large and high, and are built of stone and brick, while the floors of its three corridors are made of marble.
This church is also distinguished by its decorative elements that are greatly influenced by the neoclassical and neo-Renaissance styles. The church tower consists of a square base with a height of 11 meters, starting from the surface of the ground to the end of the roof of the church. It has a second floor bearing a rectangular balcony, in addition to a third floor topped with a conical top that ends with a Latin cross. .
As for the Church of Bishop Bishoy, it is located opposite the Church of Saint-Eugenie, and it is considered one of the heritage and historical buildings in Port Said, as well as a tourist one, as it was an old building belonging to the Vatican, built in 1890 AD, and bearing the name “Asile Couvreux.” It has been rented to the Coptic Orthodox Church, and the conditions are being legalized by issuing an official public license.
The church is built in the shape of Noah’s ark. The church contains an icon of the Virgin Mary who exudes oil in February of every year, starting in 1990 AD, and visitors come to it from various governorates of Egypt and countries.
Stalingrad Square
Its location
“Stalingrad” Square is located in the middle of the Al-Manakh district, the oldest neighborhood in Port Said Governorate, and is considered one of its vital squares.
His upbringing
The square was established in 1975, after the Russian city of Stalingrad established a square named Port Said in recognition of Port Said’s victory over the tripartite aggression. Although the name of the Russian city of Stalingrad changed after the collapse of the Soviet Union to the name of the city of Leningrad and then Volgagrad, the name of the square in Port Said remained the same.
Opening after development
In 2019, the former Governor of Port Said, and Svetilana Sopova, Acting Russian Ambassador to Cairo, opened Stalingrad Square, which witnessed development and efficiency work at the highest level. The opening activities began with a group performance for children carrying Egyptian flags, amid an atmosphere of joy and welcome to the Governor of Port Said and Al-Qaim.
